Which LEGOLAND California Tickets To Get
The first decision to make is whether you want to buy a park hopper or a LEGOLAND only ticket. The park hopper covers admission to The LEGOLAND Sea Life Aquarium and LEGOLAND Waterpark. Buy theme park admission tickets online ahead of time, they’re generally more expensive at the gate.
You need an entire day to do everything there is to do in LEGOLAND. The water park takes about a half day. The Sea Life Aquarium takes 1-2 hours. So, if you’re just coming for one day and one day only you’re good to just buy LEGOLAND tickets.
With extra time, you can get a park hopper pass and use a second day to do the water park and aquarium. Note that you cannot buy tickets to just the water park as it’s inside LEGOLAND. You are only able to enter with a park hopper or season pass. You CAN buy tickets to just the aquarium.
Where to Find Ticket Deals For LEGOLAND California
There are lots of ways to save money on LEGOLAND tickets. They run great promos all year, here’s all their current deals.
By the way, these are affiliate links! It is no extra cost to you, so if you love this info please remember to buy through my link. Thank you so much! It helps me keep bringing you the best LEGOLAND content for free.
If you bundle theme park and hotel stays, you get a significant discount! There’s also Kids Free October (kids under 12 free with a paying adult) and Museum Month in February where the park hoppers are half-off. McDonald’s and some LEGO toys often have Kids Free promotions as well.
If you visit on a rainy day, there’s the Rainy Day Guarantee that lets you come back another day free of charge. They’ll announce it over the loud speaker if that’s the case and you’ll pick up your ticket at Guest Services.

What ages is LEGOLAND California best for?
The best age to take kids to LEGOLAND is ages 2-12. They do a great job creating experiences for kids this age.
One of the coolest things about LEGOLAND is they design their parks with little kids in mind. Every single land has a playground and a build area. This makes for a great flow to the day. Your family can ride a few rides, then stop to enjoy the themed playground and LEGO building area. Sometimes we go on a crowded day and don’t end up riding any rides at all. The kids still have a blast.
Many times if you take a small child to a theme park, they will either stay in their stroller or be in line all day. Not so with LEGOLAND. You’ll take them home good and exhausted and they’ll also be inspired to play with their LEGO more at home!
For this reason, I encourage you to plan extra time so kids don’t feel rushed at the play areas.
Older kids and teens will continue to enjoy LEGOLAND as long as they are LEGO fans. There are a few bigger roller coasters like the new Galacticoaster and Technicoaster older kids will enjoy.
We took my nephews ages 14 & 16 and they had a blast riding the roller coasters with their little cousins, enjoying the models, and building at the building areas. My husband is 40 and I have to pull him away from the Ferrari Build & Test because he could spend hours in there. And my mom is in her 70s and loves looking at the LEGO models. LEGO is an ageless toy!

Height Limits and Rider Switch at LEGOLAND California
There are a lot of rides with height limits OR age limits at LEGOLAND. They are strict on children being tall enough and being the right age. This annoyed me a bit until I learned that it has to do with brain and neck development, not really height. Kids getting tossed around on rides can cause damage to their head and neck or they can fall out. So now I am a big strict height limit fan.
A good tactic is to look at the LEGOLAND app before you go. Sort by your child’s height to see everything they can ride. This will prevent a lot of disappointment later. They also have Rider Switch for many of the rides. One parent rides with a child while the other waits with the younger child. Then you swap! They are really good about providing space for the smaller child to play, so don’t waste this time in line with them or sitting around. Finding something fun for the kid who isn’t tall enough to do while waiting will really help your experience!
This does get tricky when you’re trying to visit LEGOLAND by yourself with your kids. It’s definitely easier with two parents. Depending on your comfort level, you can leave your other child with a staff member. Most have spots where you can see your kid while you ride. Obviously this wouldn’t be an option with the indoor rides like Galacticoaster. So this is your sign to bring two parents OR go with a mom friend or there’s going to be things your kids can’t ride!
How to Plan Your Trip to LEGOLAND California
If I were planning a trip here’s how I would schedule it:
Day One: Arrive, play at the LEGOLAND hotel lobby, do the hotel pools and kid dance party.
Day Two: Early entry to LEGOLAND, do all LEGOLAND rides (follow my schedule!)
Day Three: Sea Life Aquarium and water park. Water park generally opens before the aquarium. With any extra time, ride anything you missed or want to ride again in LEGOLAND.
Extra days: check out The San Diego Zoo, Safari Park, or some of San Diego’s best sandy beaches! San Diego isn’t huge though Carlsbad is located about an hour north of the city.
What To Bring to LEGOLAND California
Bring your own water bottles (there are refill stations), hats, sunscreen, a stroller, and some food and small snacks. They are pretty good about dietary restrictions but if your kid has an allergy might be good to have some meals on hand just in case. We like to eat in the park, but it’s always good to have backups!
Having some hand sanitizer on hand is a good idea. There’s some all over the parks, but it’s a high touch sort of place with kids playing with the same toys and bricks. Would be impossible to sanitize all those tiny bricks (though they do try!).
You can also bring LEGO Mini Figs to trade with staff members. Minifigure trading is a free thing to do and kids can go home with all new Mini Figs! It’s the best way to go home with a FREE souvenir.
You won’t need much entertainment in line because most lines are pretty interactive (most have LEGO bricks to play with) but you can bring a few things! The resort is cashless, so bring debit cards and credit cards.
If you’re going to the water park bring hats, sunscreen, towels (you can buy them but they are $25), and water shoes like Crocs.
Best Souvenirs at LEGOLAND California
This is a great spot to get cool LEGOS! There are LEGO stores all over each land and one HUGE LEGO store right at the entrance (formerly The Big Shop). You can design your own custom LEGO Minifigure inside the main LEGO Shop at The Beginning.
Our favorite souvenirs are the LEGO swords and shields. They aren’t too expensive and they are soft enough that kids can really whack each other with them and no one gets hurt. We have a collection of about 10 and they last a long time. We replace them when they do wear out. They have different swords all over the park, but the one at the Ninjago ride exit has some really cool original ones.
There’s a great deal inside The LEGOLAND Castle Hotel where you can bundle sword and shield for a discount. Also don’t forget your girls! They like swords too. There are some feminine knight swords and even pink swords for them!
If you’d like to get a LEGO, there are tons of cool ones to choose from. Some you’ll only find IN LEGOLAND, so it’s a great place to do Christmas shopping. Your season pass will get you a good discount too, so we always come here Nov / Dec to grab our Christmas presents for the kids.
Fun tip: you can get a free ticket JUST to shop at the store. No LEGOLAND ticket required. See Guest Services to do this.
Should I Book the LEGOLAND Hotel?
Short answer: yes. It really adds to the experience and it’s great for small kids. Breakfast is included and it’s amazing! There’s a huge buffet and nice variety of food.
Every room has bunk beds slightly separate from the adult area so our whole family sleeps comfortably. There are scavenger hunts, kid dance parties, themed rooms, and a disco elevator. Add in that hotel guests get early entry to LEGOLAND and it’s a no-brainer.
There are two themed hotels. I have a whole post on deciding whether to book The LEGOLAND Hotel or LEGOLAND Castle Hotel you can read that here.
If you don’t want to stay at The LEGOLAND hotel, I like The Sheraton Carlsbad behind LEGOLAND. They actually have their own entrance to the park!
Another option would be to do two days at the LEGOLAND hotel and then book a second less expensive spot in La Jolla or San Diego if you’re looking to continue your San Diego vacation.

LEGOLAND California Fast Track
LEGOLAND just announced a NEW line skipping system. You can pay for three different tiers. For the lowest tier, you can skip three ride lines per day. The next one up you can skip six per day. And then there’s the highest tier, unlimited!
Watch for which rides you’re allowed to skip the lines for, they’re different for every tier.
Prices vary per day and they sell out to ensure those who buy them actually get to skip the lines as promised.
The LEGOLAND California Mobile App
Before you go, make sure to download The LEGOLAND app. You can check wait times here and make reservations if you decide to purchase Fast Track. Note that the wait times at LEGOLAND are sometimes inaccurate. Most things are LESS of a wait than they put on the app! I’ve timed a lot of them based on what the app says and it can be wildly inaccurate.
It is really useful for show times and navigating yourself around the park! You can also find character meet and greet times on here.
LEGOLAND California Special Events!
There are tons of special events throughout the year! If you’re a passholder you can access them all. Our favorites are Brick or Treat in the fall (their Halloween event) and LEGOLAND Holidays. There’s also Ninjago Weekends in January and February and The LEGO Festival in the spring.
Here is my post on Brick or Treat! It’s my favorite Halloween theme park party in SoCal and I’ve been to every single one!
Visiting LEGOLAND California with a special needs child or an autistic child
If you have a child with special needs, someone in your party who needs a wheelchair, or any other type of circumstance where you can’t wait in lines, make sure to get a Assisted Access pass. This will allow you to use the Fast Track lines for no cost.
They don’t question or ask you for a doctor’s note like Disney. Please do not abuse this system, only use it if you really need it or they will get more strict on who they allow to use it!
I’ll add here that LEGOLAND is a certified Autism Center. Their staff is trained in how to interact with those with special needs and I’ve heard so many stories of their kindness in many circumstances.
There is a quiet room next to the Baby Care Center. You can find it near Driver’s School and the water park entrance.

LEGOLAND California Water Park
Here’s my whole post on The LEGOLAND Water Park!
The LEGOLAND Water Park is amazing, especially if you have young kids. The water slides aren’t too scary for kids and they have a ton of splash pads and open play areas. I also LOVE their wave pool at the back and their lazy river. It’s lined with palm trees and they play Hawaiian music. Catch me there all summer.
The Water Park is at back of the main LEGOLAND park near Fun Town. You will need a regular LEGOLAND ticket and a water park ticket to go. They currently only sell tickets as part of a Park Hopper or you can add on for $30 once you’re there.
It’s a great hands-on theme park experience that is absolutely worth the entrance fee whether you live locally or are visiting. LEGOLAND California Resort is the best place to ride water slides for young children in San Diego.
LEGOLAND California Sea Life Aquarium
The LEGOLAND Sea Life Aquarium is surprisingly huge. In typical LEGOLAND fashion, there’s a scavenger hunt and areas to play inside. There are actually more fish here than at our real aquarium, Birch Aquarium in La Jolla.
You can visit as part of a park hopper or you can buy an individual ticket to just the aquarium.
It takes about 1-1.5 hours to tour and it’s a great option on a rainy or super hot day!

Best Dates To Visit LEGOLAND California
Generally the best time to visit LEGOLAND is on weekdays and when school is in session. Note that in the low season the park is sometimes closed on Wednesdays!
We’ve had the lowest crowds in early November, mid-September, January, and February. October is great too, just avoid Brick or Treat days as the crowd for the event is mixed in with regular park attendees
Kids are free in October and you can get half off park hoppers through Museum Month in February. Both these deals are available to residents and non residents.
How to Avoid Crowds at LEGOLAND California
LEGOLAND is the opposite of most theme parks, where you want to arrive early to beat the crowds. With its 10 am opening time and younger crowd, the crowds get thinner as the day goes on.
Generally 10-12 is the most crowded time of day with a big drop around naptime (2ish) and another drop around 4 pm.
The hour before close is the best time to be at LEGOLAND. We can ride a ton of rides in an hour right before the park closes.
Best Food at LEGOLAND California
We’ve tried every restaurant at LEGOLAND and here are my favorites in order.
The food is surprisingly good here, IMO better than Disney and definitely better than SeaWorld.
My Favorite Spots To Eat
Beach Street Tacos inside the Water Park
A small less known spot but my favorite restaurant in LEGOLAND. I have walked all the way in here on a day we aren’t going to the water park to grab one of their mocktails and fish tacos.
Knight’s Smokehouse BBQ by The Dragon Coaster
This place is peak for me. I love all the different sauce options. It is a little pricier as they have huge portions so you might want to split your entrees!
Pizza and Pasta Buffet by Technicoaster
We found this place by accident on a rainy day and it’s great for days your kids are starving. They have unlimited pizza and pasta and entry isn’t too bad. I love the bolognese with the pulled pork.
Everything is Ramen in LEGO Movie World
We are a house divided for this one. I love this place but my husband thinks it isn’t enough food. If you’re a ramen person this is definitely worth a stop.
Dragon’s Den Restaurant & Bar at The Castle Hotel
This restaurant is actually outside LEGOLAND in the Castle Hotel. They have typical Medieval food like hunks of meat and roast potatoes. The food is tasty, though this is a pricier option. One big appeal is that there are areas for kids to play with LEGO inside the restaurant.
This also stays open later so if you find yourself at LEGOLAND on a night it closes at 6 pm with hungry kids, this spot comes in clutch. You do not have to be staying in the hotel to eat here.
Brick’s Family Restaurant LEGOLAND Hotel
This is a buffet and it’s excellent. It changes every night, but there are Asian, Mexican, and many healthy options. Kids have their own buffet full of kid-friendly food.
This is a good way to ensure everyone goes home with a full belly, especially if you have picky eaters.
Like the Castle Hotel Restaurant this place stays open later and you don’t need to be staying at the hotel to eat here.
UFO or Ultimate Food Outlet in LEGO Galaxy World
Ok this place is excellent. Tons of options. Order at the kiosk, grab from the windows. My favorite were the Birra tacos! Nachos were pretty good too.
Places I Will Eat if I Need To
Burger Kitchen by Pirate Ride
This place changes out their menu with the season, offering themed burgers and drinks. It’s a great option and probably my favorite burger in the park.
The Pizza Pit Stop by Ninjago Playground
The pizza here is pretty good and comes in personal pizza size! I appreciate the seasoning on the crust.
Beach Front Grill inside LEGOLAND Water Park
This spot actually has two locations, one by the children’s splash pad and a second one up by Legends of Chima Wave Pool. They both serve the same thing, burgers, fried chicken tenders.
The Market at LEGOLAND Entrance
This is a great spot to stop for snacks and treats! They have a few food items like breakfast pastries and sandwiches. It’s mostly to-go food and snacks (great resource for picky eaters who only eat pouches). It’s perfect for a quick bite before you enter the park to keep everyone happy.
Best Desserts and Treats at LEGOLAND
There are two desserts you absolutely must try at LEGOLAND. They are: Granny’s Apple Fries and the Churros Con Chocolate.
Granny’s Apple Fries
Granny’s Apple Fries are back by the medieval playground. They are deep fried green apple strips with an amazing heavy cream vanilla dipping sauce. They have seasonal variations but I like the classic ones. They need nothing added. I usually get these and snack on them as my kids play in the nearby playground.
Churros Con Chocolate
The other treat you need to try is their authentic churros. These are not your lame Disney churros. These are thick and come with a chocolate dipping sauce. My husband has a running list of which SoCal spots have the best churros. He says LEGOLAND is first and Pechanga Arena is second. They serve them by Miniland and the submarine ride. They aren’t always open so grab them if you see them open!
More Treats!
Other treats to consider are their giant Rice Krispie treats (I break them into pieces for my kids) and their chocolate LEGO blocks! You can get both at the market at the entrance as well as a few other spots throughout the park.
There’s also a cute ice cream shop by the exit of the dragon coaster. They serve seasonal milkshakes!
How to Tackle The Park and Suggested Ride Schedule
Instead of a minute by minute ride plan, I’m going to tell you which rides have long lines. Do those either the first thing when you get there or leave them for the very last. The most popular rides get very crowded, but most are worth the wait!
Crowded rides: Galacicoaster, Techniccoaster, Coastersaurus, Ninjago, Emmett’s Flying Couch, Dragon Coaster.
A great strategy we’ve found is to walk all the way to back of the park as soon as it opens and start with Dragon Coaster. Then slowly make your way front, doing Techniccoaster, and Ninjago and exploring those lands. Take a break in the middle of the day to enjoy Miniland, the playgrounds, Ferrari Build & Test and ride the submarine ride (my favorite!).
Then do the other side of the park like Driver’s School, LEGO Movie World, LEGO Galaxy and finish off with Dino Valley.
If you have early entry, start in Dino Valley. Ride the Coastersaurus and Little Dino Trail first as those get crowded. Then go on to the Dinosaur Quest boat ride. This line stays short all day! Then continue with the plan and walk back to Dragon Coaster.

Full Guide to LEGOLAND Lands
Okay now we are going to go through land by land and I’ll tell you what’s worth it and what you’re okay to skip. If you have information overload you’re fine to skip this section and come back and read it in line or the night before you go.
I’ll go in order of which I recommend you prioritize.
Miniland USA
Though I wouldn’t START with this land (do it in the afternoon when ride lines are long) you absolutely must visit if you’re going to LEGOLAND. They have full LEGO models of NYC, Vegas, and my favorite, a mini version of San Diego! Don’t miss seeing the Coronado Bridge and Petco Park!
The only ride here is Coast Cruise. This was one of the very first rides at LEGOLAND and I remember doing it at the opening in 1999! You’ll cruise by a lot of cool LEGO builds like The Taj Mahal and Mount Rushmore! Also the boat captains are full of Dad jokes. They’re funny every time.
One fun tip a lot of people miss is you can actually see what the Master Builders are working on. Go inside the building just up the stairs from Los Angeles and SoFi Stadium. You’ll get to see real Master Builders hard at work!
LEGO Galaxy
This is their brand new space-themed land, it just opened in March 2026! There are three rides here, with the largest being the Galcticoaster, their brand new indoor family coaster. Kids can design their own ships and really fly in it!
There’s also the helicopters and the spinny ride outdoors. One is great for little kids and the other for older children!
They have a DUPLO play area and building station as well.
Make sure to check out The United Food Outpost while you’re here!
Fun Town
We love the new Driving Schools here. There are two options, one for ages 6+ and one for ages 3-6. Kids can get behind the wheel of the car and try their hand at driving!
Note that for the younger ride, they will ask everyone how old they are. They always ask the child, not the adult. Any kid who doesn’t say 3,4 or 5 will not be allowed to ride so practice with your kid if they aren’t used to telling people their age.
They have a fun indoor building station here as well and Adventure Walk. This is easy to miss, but make sure you walk through here and find all seven keys!

LEGO Ninjago World
This land is home to one of the BEST playgrounds I have ever seen. It’s a full ninja training course. It’s a battle getting the kids out of here every single time. In January and February they have these really cute Ninjago events where kids can train to be real ninjas! We go every year.
There’s also the Ninjago ride here. This one is dark and a little loud, but most kids still love it! The wait gets long, so prioritize going early.
LEGO Movie World
This is one of their newer lands and it’s all based on the LEGO Movie! You’ll find Emmett’s Flying Couch ride (bad for vertigo, you’ve been warned) UniKitty’s Disco Drop, and Queen Whateva’s Carousel. Kids love the rocket ship playground in the middle and I love the Everything is Ramen restaurant!
Dino Valley
LEGOLAND’s second newest land, there are three rides here including a small roller coaster called Coastersaurus. The line for this gets INSANE. You have my permission to skip, there are other cooler roller coasters.
There’s also the Dino Safari ride that puts you in little cars. It’s really short and the line is also super long sometimes. Hit up Dino Valley early. This is the land you get early access to with your hotel stay so take advantage. Do these two little rides first before heading to the BEST ride in Dino Valley.
Explorer River Quest is the best ride here. Formerly the fairytale boats (the boats still have a fairytale vibe to them) this ride takes you past some AMAZING dino builds. I also love that it’s shady and the line stays short all day!
Pirate Shores / LEGO Pirates
Next is the pirate area. They have a few rides over here, like the slow boats where kids can drive their own boat. They also have a pirate ride that spins you all around! They used to have a pirate water ride, but it’s shut down, has been for a year. Not sure when it’s back.
There’s a little splash pad here as well!
Up the road you’ll find the submarine ride. We LOVE this ride as it’s interactive and can take you through real aquariums to see real fish! You press buttons to complete a scavenger hunt on your way.
Castle Hill / LEGO Kingdoms
This land is home to the Dragon Coaster. This is a great first roller coaster for little kids and is one of my favorite rides in the park.
They also have a giant wooden playground that we call the Lord of the Flies playground. It’s huge and the parents all sit at the front so the kids have some freedom.
The last ride is the knight ride. This ride allows kids ages 4-12 on it. If you’re three you can’t ride. I think a 3 year old must have gotten out and messed with the track at some point.
For food, the BBQ place I mentioned is here as well as Granny’s Apple Fries and the ice cream shop!
Imagination Zone
No rides here HOWEVER they do have Ferrari Build and Test. Build a Ferrari and race it against other builds. You can also virtually race it against every other build that day.
Not only do I have to coax my two kids out of here, my husband loves getting in there and building cars and testings them too. Don’t miss the giant LEGO Ferrari at the front!
Land of Adventure
We love this Egypt themed land! The highlight is the ball playground where kids can shoot each other with balls. My kids would spend HOURS in there.
This area also has an Egypt ride (can be scary for little kids), and two fun rides for tiny kids! There’s the airplane ride and then Beetle Bounce. I love watching my kids on Beetle Bounce!
